🧠 ChatGPT got a new Deep research mode
After Operator, OpenAI just launched its second AI Agent called Deep Research. Powered by OpenAI's latest o3 reasoning model, this latest AI agent searches, interprets, and analyses vast amounts of text, images, and PDFs on the web to produce a comprehensive report close to a research analyst's level.
Insights for you:
OpenAI introduces a new 'deep research' mode for ChatGPT, enabling users to conduct complex multi-step research online.
Deep research is built for people who do intensive knowledge work in areas like finance, science, policy, and engineering and need thorough, precise, and reliable research
It will initially be made available to OpenAI's $200/month Pro customers, limited to 100 queries per month.

📞 Google's 'Ask for Me' uses AI to call businesses on behalf of customers
Google is working on a new AI calling feature called "Ask for Me" that handles booking appointments with service providers. In the early stages of deployment, the feature is being tested with auto shops and nail salons, with plans to expand further in the future.
Insights for you:
Google has launched a new Search Labs experiment named “Ask for Me.”
Ask for Me lets you use Google AI to call businesses on your behalf to find out what they charge for a service and also to find out when it’s available.
Businesses do have the option to opt out of receiving these AI-based calls, and it is disclosed at the beginning of the call that AI is being used.

😯 Most AI models fail at self-criticism, except OpenAI's o1
Researchers at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, found in their study that most AI systems get worse when trying to fix their own mistakes, o1-mini usually improves its performance. When working on college-level math, o1-mini got 24% better through self-criticism and improved by 19.4% on ARC tasks.
Insights for you:
Researchers have discovered that OpenAI's o1-mini model improves its performance through self-criticism, unlike most AI systems that deteriorate when attempting to correct their errors.
They developed a new testing method called RealCritic, which ensures that AI models can not only identify their mistakes but also rectify them effectively.
The study examined three different ways AI models can critique solutions. In self-critique, where models review their work, most did worse. O1-mini was the exception, improving by an average of 3.3%.
