SPOTIFY
🎶 Spotify’s Latest AI Feature Builds Playlists Based on Text Descriptions

Spotify is now incorporating AI into building playlists, after the success of its well-liked AI DJ tool. AI playlists are a new feature that lets users create playlists based on written prompts, available in beta on Monday.

Insights for you:

  • Spotify uses AI to recommend a wider range of personalized playlists, such as "songs to serenade my cat" or "beats to battle a zombie apocalypse," in addition to more conventional playlist creation requests, such as those based on genre or time frame.

  • The feature is currently available to users on Android and iOS devices in the U.K. and Australia and will be iterated on in the months ahead.

  • Spotify points out that AI is protected by boundaries, meaning it won't react to provocative questions or ones tied to current affairs or particular companies.

APPLE
👑 Apple Dethrones GPT-4 with ReALM

Apple enters the realm of LLMs with ReALM, which may outperform GPT-4! The company is expected to be launching big in the AI race later this year and this might be their big reveal for the big day!

Insights for you:

  • Apple AI researchers published a paper on a small AI model called ReALM.

  • ReALM, which stands for Reference Resolution As Language Modeling, can understand images and text on the screen to enhance the interactions with the AI.

  • This new system can interpret context from on-screen content. The paper claims that ReALM’s performance is comparable to GPT-4 for reference resolution.

OPERA
🌐 Opera Launches Local Access to LLMs

Opera browser announced that it would be providing experimental support for 150 local Large Language Models (LLMs). These LLMs include variants from approximately 50 families of models in the developer stream. This is the first time that a browser will allow local access to LLM variants.

Insights for you:

  • Opera is testing this new collection of local LLMs in the Opera One development stream as part of its new AI Feature Drops Programme.

  • Includes model variants over approximately 50 families including Mixtral, Llama, and Gemma.

  • Can only be accessed through the latest version of Opera Developer. Code Llama and Phi-2 are some models that developers should try out through Opera.

TESLA VS OPENAI
🤔 Musk is Poaching Tesla Employees Because OpenAI wants them

In response to aggressive recruiting practices and generous offers from OpenAI, Elon Musk said that Tesla is increasing the salary for its AI engineers. He referred to this as the "craziest talent war" he had ever witnessed.

Insights for you:

  • Musk's xAI has even stolen a few Tesla engineers, notably ML scientist Ethan Knight, who Musk said was initially scheduled to join OpenAI.

  • When Elon Musk threatened to develop AI technology outside of Tesla and demanded that the board adopt a bonus plan giving him a 25% stake in the firm, concerns about his treatment of his companies became louder.

  • Rebranding Tesla as an AI leader has been one of Elon Musk's primary objectives during the last 12 months, as investors are now prepared to pay large multiples for such stocks.

OPENAI
🤖 OpenAI Simplifies AI Model Creation and Fine-Tuning for Developers

OpenAI publicly announced that it’s bringing several improvements in the form of several fine-tuning API features to ChatGPT. OpenAI has been on the roll for the last few months, providing the world of Generative AI with cutting-edge technologies and state-of-the-art models.

Insights for you:

  • To attain better-quality outcomes with less expense and latency, OpenAI’s fine-tuning API also accommodates a higher volume of instances than can be contained in a single prompt.

  • These features include Epoch-based checkpoint creation, comparative playground, third-party integration, and much more. Also introduced a dashboard for fine-tuning custom models and customizing hyperparameter metrics.

  • The main goal behind this is to give developers more control over model creation and API-fine tuning.

BRAVE
📱 Brave’s Leo AI Now Available for iPhones: But What’s New?

iPhone & iPad users can now use AI if they the Brave Browser! Brave announced that their Leo AI assistant is now available for iOS, weeks after it was launched for Android. Leo gives users access to several high-quality LLMs that ensure better and more relevant answers to niche questions. Leo uses Mixtral 8x7B as the default LLM for iOS devices.

Insights for you:

  • Leo AI will be available to the Brave Browser in iOS with the version 1.63 update.

  • Leo enables natural conversations since this AI is built right into the browser. Users can directly ask questions (like giving a prompt in ChatGPT), and get it answered.

  • There is one specific feature that will be only available for iOS. Brave integrates voice-to-text functionality in iOS to let users speak prompts directly to Leo, which are then converted from spoken words to written text without the need for typing.
