😮 Elon Musk’s Grok 3 Launched

Today, Elon Musk unveiled the latest version of his company’s AI assistant, Grok 3, during a live demonstration event. The new AI model promises significantly improved capabilities over its predecessor and introduces several new features, including enhanced reasoning abilities and upcoming voice interaction.

Microsoft
💸 Microsoft offers authors $5,000 to train AI on their books

According to Bloomberg, Microsoft is taking a new approach to using copyrighted books for AI training by offering payment to HarperCollins authors. In addition, the deal only applies to select nonfiction books that were previously published, not fiction books.

Insights for you:

  • Microsoft has offered HarperCollins a licensing deal to use their books to train AI models, with authors receiving half of the $5,000 per book fee.

  • Authors would receive half of that amount, or $2,500 per book, according to the publisher.

  • Authors are grappling with the decision to allow their work to be used in AI training, weighing the financial benefits against the potential impact on their intellectual property and the uncertainty of fair compensation in the context of generative AI.

🔴 AI Agents Are Dumber Than We Thought

A new research paper reveals that AI Agents can be easily tricked into performing harmful actions, including leaking users’ private information. The research team from Columbia University and the University of Maryland found that these attacks don’t require any special technical knowledge to execute.

Insights for you:

  • Researchers have discovered that AI agents that independently control computer systems and software can be easily manipulated by attackers.

  • In experiments, the researchers succeeded in deceiving the AI agents using specially crafted Reddit posts and websites with targeted instructions.

  • As a result, the agents disclosed confidential data, downloaded malicious software, and sent phishing emails to the users' contacts.
