 Is Apple developing an AI Robotic Arm?

According to a new report in Bloomberg, Apple is moving into robotics to make a tabletop device that looks like an arm will have a new interface powered by generative AI. It can perform tasks like launching a video conference or remotely operating something in your house.

🥈 ChatGPT's competitors Perplexity and Claude are growing faster

A survey done by a16z showed that ChatGPT is still the most popular gen AI tool today. However, Perplexity (AI search tool) and Claude (especially after the launch of Artifacts) were also in the top 5 list showing a significant growth in their usage as well. Both are gaining momentum and might be snatching market share soon.

  • VC firm a16z surveyed to find the 100 most used gen AI applications.

  • Perplexity got 3rd rank on the list, while Anthropic’s Claude came on the 4th rank.

✂️ Adobe’s New AI Tool Lets You Easily Cut and Paste Photos

Developed by Adobe researchers, Magic Fixup is an AI tool where you can CUT a part of the image and PASTE it somewhere else on the same image. The image will adapt to the new context, perspective and lighting, with fine detail transfer from the source frame to the generated image.

  • Adobe’s Magic Fixup enable users to edit images with a cut-and-paste-like approach and fix those edits automatically.

  • Magic Fixup learns from video data, allowing it to understand how objects and scenes change under different conditions.

💻️ NVIDIA released a small model that runs on laptops

NVIDIA, with Mistral AI, released a version of open Mistral NeMo 12B: Mistral-NeMo-Minitron 8B. They say that it is small enough to run locally on an NVIDIA RTX-powered PC and laptop.

  • Mistral-NeMo-Minitron 8B is the new lightweight LLM by NVIDIA and Mistral AI.

  • It showed superior performance and efficiency on many benchmarks.

  • NVIDIA used pruning to shrink Mistral NeMo’s 12 billion parameters into 8 billion, and distillation to improve accuracy.

💪 AI21 Labs’s new model gets the longest context window

AI21 has announced the release of two powerful new openly available models: Jamba 1.5 Mini and Jamba 1.5 Large. With a 256K effective context window, they can improve the quality of key enterprise applications, such as lengthy document summarization and analysis.
