🩺 OpenAI's o1-preview outperforms Doctors in Tricky Medical Cases
A new study suggests OpenAI's o1-preview AI system might be better at diagnosing tricky medical cases than human doctors. The model demonstrated superior performance compared to older models and experienced physicians in diagnosing complex medical cases.
Insights for you:
Researchers from Harvard Medical School and Stanford University conducted a study to evaluate the diagnostic abilities of OpenAI's AI model o1-preview. It correctly diagnosed 78.3% of all cases it examined.
In a direct comparison of 70 specific cases, the system performed even better, accurately diagnosing 88.6% of cases - significantly outperforming its predecessor GPT-4, which managed 72.9%.
The model also showed better performance in making treatment decisions, although it had some weaknesses in assessing probabilities.
