🎮️ AI simulates the Doom Video Game in Real-Time

Google Researchers have developed an AI Game Engine called “GameNGen” that simulates the 1993 classic video game: Doom. The output was at 20 fps with a similar video quality to the original. They used Stable Diffusion models that are used by AI image generators.

Insights for you:

  • GameNGen can interactively simulate the classic game DOOM at over 20 frames per second on a single TPU.

  • The AI model generates images (instead of code) of the game’s frames based on the user’s input.

  • However, it can only access a little over 3 seconds of history.

👮 AI Chatbots are writing Police Reports

The Oklahoma City Police Department is testing an AI system based on ChatGPT technology to write police reports. Draft One will create reports based on body camera video and audio recordings. It is currently only limited to minor incidents.

Insights for you:

  • Called “Draft One”, Oklahoma City police are exploring AI chatbots to generate incident reports based on body camera footage.

  • It will save time for police officers and early results shown good results.

  • However, some experts have shown concerns about possible AI hallucinations causing problems later.

✍️ LongWriter LLM Pushed Boundaries with 10,000 Words Output

Researchers at Tsinghua University in Beijing have developed a new artificial intelligence system named “LongWriter” as a solution to this problem. It can write up to 10,000 words on a given topic without compromising the quality of the generated output.

Insights for you:

  • LongWriter can now generate text up to 10,000 words surpassing traditional LLM limits of 2,000 words.

  • AgentWrite, an agent-based pipeline breaks down the longer tasks into short subtasks to achieve this.

  • To avoid repetition, the agent specifies what each paragraph should be about along with the required word count i.e. checkpoints.

🙋‍♂️ Meta’s Sapiens AI Models Can Analyze Human Images Better

Meta’s new Sapiens AI models can perform tasks including 2D pose estimation, body segmentation and depth estimation. Sapiens-2B (the largest of the models) was trained on 1024 x 1024 pixel images. Researchers believe that the pre-training has helped in improving its performance.

Insights for you:

  • Meta has launched “Sapiens” AI models for human image analysis.

  • The models were pre-trained with 300 million human images.

  • Meta notes that the models offer both adaptability and robust performance.
